Small Town Gardens began in 1998 when Andy made the decision to leave a successful corporate career and pursue a lifelong passion for gardening and garden design.
More than 25 years later, that passion continues to shape everything we do.
Over the years, we have worked with homeowners across Edinburgh, helping to create, develop and maintain gardens of all sizes and styles. From large established gardens to contemporary new-build landscapes, our work has always been guided by a simple belief: a well-designed garden should be both beautiful and enjoyable to live with.
Today, Small Town Gardens is run by husband-and-wife team Andy and Naomi, combining decades of horticultural experience with a personal, client-focused approach to garden design.

While our business has a long history of working with larger private gardens, we recognised that many homeowners with smaller gardens and new-build properties were struggling to find garden design services that felt truly personal.
That’s why we developed our bespoke garden design service for smaller and new-build gardens throughout Edinburgh.
Unlike many off-the-shelf planting packages, our designs are tailored specifically to your garden, your lifestyle and your design preferences.
Every project begins with a site visit, where we assess the garden’s soil, aspect and growing conditions, while taking time to understand how you would like your outdoor space to look and feel. Using inspiration images and mood boards, we work together to develop a planting scheme that reflects your vision and complements your home.
Our Approach
Every garden starts with a conversation.

From there, we create a planting plan designed to thrive in your garden and provide enjoyment throughout the year.
Most projects are completed in two planting phases, allowing us to establish the main planting scheme before introducing seasonal bulbs and additional interest later in the year.
This approach helps create gardens that continue to grow, mature and improve over time.
